Hello everyone,
I had a terrific time at the convention. The shows were sensational and my seats were closer to the stage. I’ve been trying to remember some of the news mentioned at the luncheon. As you know, Garry broke the news of Barry’s upcoming surgery. For a few seconds I was worried about what news he was about to tell us. The surgery Barry will be having is outpatient and the decision to have it done at the end of August instead of the end of the year which Barry was trying to do, was due to the risk of even more damage.
Someone asked about a dvd of the Midnight With Manilow session we had two years ago. If a dvd is released of this event, it would be only released through the fan club. Which is fine by us. Garry Kief mentioned that he has become more involved in the production of Harmony. Perhaps an event with the fan club around the opening of Harmony, which may be difficult with 60,000 fans and a 3,000 theater . He also mentioned that they are looking in doing a benefit performance with the funds going to the Manilow Fund.
The next dvd’s to be released are the Farewell Tour recorded in Anaheim, California and a black and white recorded during the rehearsal of Barry’s first concert tour. I am looking forwards to having both of these.
When Barry joined us he told us about meeting the man for which the Rabbi character of Harmony is based upon and his wife. Barry said he and Bruce had been writing the songs and not knowing that the actual man lived in Palm Springs. Barry went on to say how amazing to meet these two people for which the song “Where You Go” and others were written about. Sadly the man died, (and if that s--- had not screwed up) perhaps the
man Barry spoke about would have seen the production.
Someone asked Barry about more Mayflower songs being performed. Barry said that the general audiences want to hear the hits and perhaps he could do a concert for fans only featuring the songs from Here At the Mayflower.
Next Barry had them to play a few tracks from the 60’s CD. We were hugging one another, singing and swaying to:
I Can’t Take My Eyes Of You
I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You
Cherish/Wendy performed with The Association
What The World Needs Now
Barry had the biggest smile on his face as he was watching us. Sharon Tanner was up front and she could see the tears in his eyes as he was watching us. He told us that he is so glad that we got it when we sang along with the Cherish/Wendy track. Barry even mentioned that there will be bonus tracks. I am hoping that Let It Be Me is selected.
This is all that I can remember for now. Take care.
