Hi Everyone,
I am back from "Manilow Zone" (as Barry said in Sat. late show) and he owns me. I am on a Manilow High.
I went to the Convention in July and of course it was one of the best times in my life. I didn't expect to go back to Vegas so soon, but boy am I glad I did. I can't get enough of Mr. Manilow and Music and Passion.
Sat. early show, he did Somewhere In the Night, with swaying hips. Very nice. Somewhere Down The Road - I was transfixed on him, and the acapella part, absolutely beautiful. The William Tell Overture was delightful.
He did "Even Now" and I have never heard such a beautiful, emotional rendition. I turned to my friend and we both gasped, they way he sang that song, he got a standing ovation and deservedly so. Hearing it sung that way was worth the whole trip - I'm not kidding.!!!
He did "Lay Me Down" on the Dew Drop Side and boy did he get it into that song. Beautiful.
He then talked about Elvis and turned to the band and said "shall we do it" and we yelled - yes and we knew he was going to do the "If I could Dream". It was so GREAT. Another standing ovation.
Sat. late show we were treated to Luck Be a Lady Tonight and a new version of Old Songs, which I really liked. He did another great rendition of Tryin To Get The Feeling. Loved it. He talked a little about Frank Sinatra and then turned to the band and said do we have that arrangement and sang That's Life, which I also love Barry doing.
And I Was A Fool on the Dew Drop. Another beautiful Somewhere Down The Road, he really crawls into that song.
From the beginning of the late show Barry was shaking his a**. He started with Luck Be A Lady - when he was on top of the piano, with his white jacket on, he turned his back to the audience and lifted the bottom of the jacket and really shook it. And on the catwalk he had his jacket off and turned his back and said "this is for you" and shook it. He was very naughty on the catwalk, I thought even more so than in July.
The audiences were great ( except for the left side of the balcony) and really got into the show and he commented on that and showed his appreciation. During WINE he sang when can I touch you and alot of women yelled out and he got the cutest _expression on his face and said "I don't have that many hands".
For me personally, I didn't like the balcony, but it depends on where you sat that night. We were in the second row and I am short and the couple in front in me leaned into the railing during the whole show and blocked my view so I had to watch the screen when Barry was on center stage. YOu do get an excellent view of the whole show, but I felt constricted somehow and our side was dead. I looked over and saw some of the center and right side standing and applauding alot, but no one around or above us would stand and when the dancing started Barry asked us all to stand, and the people behind us were yelling ' we can't see". For the late show, we sat in Orchestra in Row O, but the guy in front of me was very tall and the guy in front of him and to the right was very tall and big, so my view of Barry was blocked when he was in center stage.
So, I prefer center downstairs in the orchestra around Row J and you can really see the catwalk action from there.
I do hope you all get the chance to see Barry and Music and Passion. It is such a positive experience and delightful experience. It will definitely put a smile on your face.
Barry's hair is a golden blonde and longer in the back and it looks good on him.
I wish you all a good week in your lives.
